Special and Elementary Education, BACHELOR OF SCIENCE

Make a profound difference in the lives of children with a variety of needs when you earn a certification in special and elementary education. You’ll divide your student-teaching semester between special education and elementary education classroom settings, then graduate with two certifications—special education for K-12 and elementary education for grades 1-8. Be prepared to work with all students, including those who have emotional and behavioral disorders, autism, and other exceptional learning needs.

NAU has been educating teachers for more than 120 years. Our program ensures you get the training and resources you need to be ready on day one in the classroom. The bachelor’s is offered at statewide locations and is eligible for education scholarships, including the Arizona Teachers Academy that is addressing the shortfall of teachers in the state.

What one of our Special and Elementary Education undergraduate students says about NAU:

“I chose to pursue Elementary and Special Education at NAU because it was a school that truly pushed me to be the best I could be and provided me with all of the resources and support to accomplish that goal.”

– Adelyne Gomez

Courses are designed to address the Professional Standards for the Council for Exceptional Children, in addition to the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) adopted by the Arizona Department of Education. This program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
